Limb Lengthening Surgery
Limb lengthening surgery is a procedure to increase bone length in the arms or legs, often performed for limb length discrepancies, congenital deformities, or cosmetic height enhancement. Lengthening Reconstruction System (LRS) Method - This involves the placement of two external rods fixed with pins that are adjusted gradually to promote bone lengthening.
Lengthening Over Nails (LON) Method - This involves the placement of an external fixator with an interna intramedullary nail after which the lengthening process is initiated.
PRECISE and PRECISE 2 Method - This involves the placement of motorized implantable nails in the bone that can be lengthened remotely using a magnetic field.
Diagnosis includes a physical examination to assess limb alignment and function. Imaging tests like X-rays, MRI scans, or CT scans help evaluate bone structure and growth potential. In some cases, bone density tests or genetic assessments may be conducted to determine suitability for the procedure.
