Craniotomy
Craniotomy is a surgical procedure in which a section of the skull is temporarily removed to access the brain. It is commonly performed to treat brain tumors, aneurysms, traumatic injuries, or epilepsy. After the procedure, the bone flap is replaced and secured. Craniotomy allows neurosurgeons to perform delicate brain surgeries with precision while minimizing risk to surrounding tissue.
Keyhole Craniotomy – A minimally invasive approach using a small opening to access the brain for specific conditions like pituitary tumors.
Traditional Craniotomy – A larger opening provides full access for complex surgeries like tumor resection, trauma care, or aneurysm repair.
Craniotomy is advised after brain imaging studies such as CT scan, MRI, and angiography detect abnormalities like tumors, bleeding, or vascular malformations. A neurological examination and preoperative assessments are done to ensure surgical readiness.
