ASD Closure Surgery
ASD (Atrial Septal Defect) closure surgery is a procedure to repair a hole in the wall between the heart's two upper chambers (atria). This defect allows oxygen-rich blood to mix with oxygen-poor blood, causing inefficient circulation. The surgery is performed to close the hole, restoring normal blood flow. There are two main types of ASD closure surgery Surgical ASD Closure Surgery, and Device ASD Closure Surgery
Surgical ASD Closure Surgery- Open-heart surgery involving sutures or a patch to close the defect, typically used for large or complex ASDs.
Device ASD Closure Surgery- A minimally invasive procedure using a catheter to place a closure device over the defect without open surgery.
An ASD is often detected during routine check-ups or through a diagnostic exam, such as echocardiography, electrocardiogram (ECG), or cardiac MRI.
