Aortic Aneurysm Repair
Aortic aneurysm repair is a surgery to correct an aneurysm in the aorta, the body’s main blood vessel. This occurs when a weakened section of the aortic wall bulges or balloons out, potentially leading to rupture. There are two major types of aortic aneurysm surgeries – Traditional Open Surgery for Aortic Aneurysm, and Endovascular Aneurysm Repair.
Traditional Open Surgery for Aortic Aneurysm- It involves a large incision to directly access and replace the weakened section of the aorta with a synthetic graft.
Endovascular Aneurysm Repair - It is a minimally invasive procedure where a stent graft is inserted through small incisions in the groin and guided to the site of the aneurysm to reinforce the weakened section of the aorta.
An aortic aneurysm is often detected when symptoms arise or during a diagnostic exam, such as computed tomography (CT scan), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), or ultrasound.
