Angioplasty
Angioplasty is a minimally invasive procedure used to open narrowed or blocked blood vessels of the heart. It is commonly done to treat coronary artery disease by restoring normal blood flow. A catheter with a balloon at its tip is inserted into the artery and inflated to widen the vessel. Often, a stent is placed to keep the artery open. This procedure helps relieve symptoms like chest pain and reduces the risk of heart attack
Balloon Angioplasty – It involves inserting a small balloon through a catheter to the blocked area and inflating it to open the artery.
Stent Placement – A small wire mesh tube is placed in the artery to keep it open after balloon angioplasty. Stents can be bare-metal or drug-eluting types.
Angioplasty is recommended after tests like ECG, echocardiogram, cardiac catheterization, or stress testing reveal blockages in coronary arteries and confirm restricted blood supply to the heart.
